2012 Banquet a great success

March 17, 2012 at Giannilli’s

The Association expresses its sincere appreciation to all who attended and supported their 2012 fundraiser banquet on March 17th at Giannilli’s II Restaurant in Greensburg. Over 110 guests registered for the event including business sponsors Hepler’s Hardware, Rachel Hoza, CPA, University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, T. P. Electric, Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Kovach and Kovach Attorneys at Law, Gary A. Falatovich, Attorney at Law, Unity Township Supervisors and Stanwood Area Federal Credit Union.

The Dinner was a great success with R. John Dawes, Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds Executive Director speaking on, “Citizen Action Making a Difference”. Mr. Dawes explained how citizen groups can successfully take on large polluters to correct environmental damages caused in their communities. The Foundation provides seed money to allow local groups to access state and federal funding, the majority of which has been for abandoned mine reclamation. Their efforts have resulted in over $118 million worth of remediation projects.

After the talk there was a lively discussion of how the Marcellus drilling impact tax will be distrubuted to both localitities and organizations like SCWA.
