The Association expresses its sincere appreciation to all who attended and supported their 2013 fundraiser banquet. Business sponsors included: University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg; Hepler's Hardware; Rachel Hoza, CPA; Loyalhanna Watershed Association by SNS Properties, Westmoreland Conservation District; and, Adam Eidemiller, Inc.
The Dinner was a great success with Ellen Keefe, Executive Director of Westmoreland Cleanways speaking on the history of the organization and it's current and future projects. She showed the great work done cleaning dump sites and the many many volunteers that have helped. She then spoke of their work in handling other types of waste, giving county residents an alternative to dumping these hazardous materials. With the new laws controlling electronic waste they are taking care of this new waste stream. She also spoke of their work in cooperating with the Drug Enforcement Administration to handle disposal of un-needed and expired prescription drugs.
The Association presented awards to Helpler's Hardware for their ongoing
support for SCWA's projects; to Jason Farabaugh of the Pennsylvania Game
Commission for his, and the Commission's assistance managing SCWA
properties; to Lewis E. Stout, a resident of Sewickley Twp., who has
volunteered his services on the Lowber and Lynch Field projects. Rob
Cronauer was honored for his water quality monitoring services on all of the
Association's abandoned mine discharge projects. Yough High School's
Superintendent, Dr Janet Sardon, Tech Ed teacher Mr. Bill Janiro, and
students Mike Diebel and Randy Swink were recognized for their work building
the education kiosk and interpretive trail signs at the Lowber site.
