SCWA internship a valuable experience

My name is Deb Simko and I am your intern at SCWA. I am a Seton Hill College student majoring in Entrepreneurial Management with a minor in Environmental Biology.

This internship is valuable in four ways.

First, it will enable me to acquire new skills such as public speaking, grant writing, and working with government agencies.

Second, I will be able to apply what I have learned in the classroom to real work experiences. For example, it is one thing to hear about a Five-Year Business Plan, but to actually see how it is used by SCWA is a better learning experience.

Third, this internship will enhance my organizational, computer, and administrative skills that I have acquired from previous work experiences.

Finally, this internship gives me the opportunity to discover what I want to do in my life. I can begin to discover my strengths and weaknesses and likes and dislikes before getting a permanent job.

It is a pleasure to work with such a premier group of dedicated people. SCWA also receives some benefits from an intern. In most organizations, there is too much to do and extra help is needed. Most of the time, the board and executive director have full time jobs, families, and the organization. An intern can help move the organization forward by working on projects that may be on the back burner due to time constraints.Interns can help with accounting, data entry and grant writing, organizing people for upcoming projects, etc.

Finally, this is an excellent chance for the organization to acquire new ideas and suggestions from an intern on how to handle some of the work whereby helping the organization nun more smoothly. An internship is a valuable experience for the organization and the intern.
