Your Watershed and Its Association
The Sewickley Creek Watershed is an area of 168
square miles in Westmoreland County. It encompasses cities, boroughs,
and rural areas. The watershed also has a number of pollution problems
- some of which were brought on by past practices.
The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association, SCWA, a
nonprofit organization, is a group of volunteers working together to
promote the conservation of natural resources, monitor and improve
water quality, identify sources of pollution, advocate wise land use
practices, educate the community to sound environmental practices, and
work with government , business and organizations to its ends.
As you will see in this newsletter, the association
is continuing its work at Brinkerton and Lowber. There will be phases
of these projects completed this year. Scouting projects have been and
are being initiated throughout our area with the aid of SCWA. Riparian
improvements are ongoing in our county. Trash cleanups are an annual
part of the associations contribution to the community. Additional work
is beginning at Wilson Run and other new areas within the watershed.
Your association does good work for you and for
future generations. It does have a problem however. The watershed is
168 square miles , but yet our association has only 100+ members.
Of these , only a handful are involved with day to day and month to
month activities. We need your help ! Please tell your family, friends,
and neighbors about our organization . Get them to join , to contribute
their time , ideas, and talents for the benefit of the watershed.
Remember, your help will benefit us all.
