Recreation

The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association is involved in a variety of projects which promote and support local recreational opportunities.

Rails to Trails

5 Star Trail Sign

In 1996, the Sewickley Creek Watershed Association conducted a study to verify the feasibility of establishing the Youngwood to Mammoth Park Trail. Three trailheads currently exist along the trail, including Youngwood Station, Westmoreland County Community College, and Mammoth Park. It is hoped that this trail will spur off to different communities within the watershed.

Abandoned rail lines at sites

Rail To Trail

The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association has purchased abandoned rail lines passing through their various remediation sites. It is hoped that educational trails will become an integral part of these facilities, allowing for walking , jogging, and educational awareness.

Fish Stocking

Fish Stocking Fish

As a result of the Association's water quality improvement efforts, some parts of the Sewickley Creek are now available for fish stocking. Members of the Association participate each spring in stocking trout within the watershed.

Brinkerton Fishing

Jack Dams

The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association has been involved in the construction of Jack Dams on Jack's Run at Lynch Field. The installation of these dams enables the establishment of pools in an otherwise shallow waterway. The pools are then able to sustain fish.
