Conserving the Land
The Appalachian Plateau Physiographic Province is the geological address of the Sewickley
Creek watershed, with Pittsburgh Low Plateau and Allegheny Mountain Sections included within
the watershed. Six soil associations are identified in the watershed. Agricultural Security
Areas make up 15% of the watershed areas. The majority of the watershed is privately owned.
Hazard areas , such as illegal dump sites, waste sites, brown fields, refuse piles,
abandoned mines, and subsidence areas, are significant because of the threat they pose to
environmental and human health.
The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association recognizes the need to conserve our natural
land resources. Preserving these areas helps to maintain the watershed's biodiversity
and adds to the senic beauty of our local landscape.
